MEMOIR COACHINGWriting your memoir is no joke. It's a sublime and self-actualizing experience but reaching into your innermost depths can be painful and deeply humbling. That's what makes a compelling book. It's an adventure I encourage everyone to go on, whether you plan to pursue publication or not. However, it takes discipline, honesty, courage, commitment and, of course, loads of caffeine. That said, it's helpful to have a friend in the form of a seasoned writing coach to keep you on track, help you navigate the messy writing process all while giving you constructive feedback (and kicking your derrière when needed).
WHAT DO I KNOW?
I've been writing personal essays, blog posts, articles and op-eds for what seems like a gazillion years. Not to mention, I wrote my own internationally acclaimed memoir, MAN FAST (you can check out the reviews here). This book was published by three different international publishers and is currently sold in countries around the world --including the United States, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, the United Kingdom, South Korea and India, among others. I've written for the New York Times and The Atlantic, among dozens of other media outlets (check out my About section for more publication credentials) and I teach memoir writing at The Writer's Center and Politics and Prose. In short, I know how to write a memoir, and I know how to get published, if that's your end goal. But I am a tough cookie: I'll make you work hard and dig deeper than you can ever imagine digging. |
